An Invitation from IPPH Founder & Former D.C. Mayor Sharon Pratt
Since 2019, the Institute of Politics, Policy and History has been creating live events and multimedia platforms for rediscovering and sharing the unique history of the District and those who call it home. As we celebrate America’s 250th birthday amid unprecedented challenges to the District and all that it represents for the nation, our work is more crucial than ever. We seek to play a leading role in defining the story of Washington, D.C. and help defend the ideals it was designed to incarnate. We invite you to join our work today by becoming a Member of IPPH.
Our Members are crucial partners in our mission. They join a growing community of individuals and organizations, in and beyond Washington, that care deeply about the city that embodies the shape of American democracy. Along with aspiring and established historians, thought leaders, activists, cultural and political leaders, educators, and residents, IPPH Members play a central role in celebrating the District, amplifying its diverse voices, and advocating for its importance to the national character of the 21st century.
Membership in IPPH has its benefits: not only do Members receive our exclusive, brand-new newsletter The Cornerstone Issue, and early access to programming, video, and podcast content, they also enjoy advance ticketing with discounted or complimentary admission to many of our live events around the District.
And that’s not all! On September 9 at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, we will welcome Members to the premiere screening of The Capital, an IPPH original film that uncovers the story of how the U.S. capital came to be. From the leadership of figures like George Washington, Pierre L’Enfant, and Benjamin Banneker, to the debates and tensions that surrounded the new nation, The Capital explores the birth of the American city that most fully defines the spirit of “We the People.”
We hope you will join us – and we are also grateful for other forms of support you can offer as we define and defend the stories of D.C.’s yesterdays, todays, and tomorrows.
Sincerely,
Sharon Pratt, Founding Director
Former Mayor of Washington, D.C.
